The teacher reserves the right to raise fees at the beginning of each new teaching year.
ADDITIONAL FEES
The tuition fee does not include workshops, accompanist fees, music books, digital sheet music and other materials.
COMMUNICATION
Due to a fixed teaching schedule please communicate via email, text or by phone whenever possible.
ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to arrive in a timely manner, as delays affect the entire teaching schedule.
Students must bring all required materials neatly in a binder, a recording device, Practice Journal, music books, bottled water and pencil.
No shows or failure to notify the instructor within 24 hours is considered a forfeited lesson.
WITHDRAWAL POLICY
Withdrawal notice must be received by The Sharkey Voice Studio in writing before the fourth scheduled lesson. If a student withdraws and lessons are terminated before the end of the month, term or academic year, all payments will not be reimbursed. No-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal.
MAKE-UP/CANCELLATION POLICY
An instructor is obliged to make up any lessons s/he cancels. If a student cancels with 24 hours notice, the instructor may wish to arrange a make-up lesson or reschedule the lesson, depending on the instructor’s schedule and the availability of lesson times. Emergencies will be dealt on a case-by-case basis. If the instructor’s schedule does not permit it, or if insufficient notice is given, the instructor is under no obligation to make up the lesson(s). No refunds are given for any reason.
If the student is late for a lesson, the time the student has missed will be sacrificed, and the lesson will need to be paid for in full.
Lessons missed due to family vacations are excused provided notification is given a month in advance.
It is the student’s responsibility to sign up for a make-up lesson time if desired.
Make-up lessons not used will be considered forfeited.
ILNESS
If you have a cough/cold or are feeling unwell, or if a member of your immediate family is ill, DO NOT come to your lesson. If you show signs of illness and attend the lesson anyway, the lesson will not proceed and the lesson will be deferred to a later date. Out of a high level of precaution, the instructor and all students must avoid exposure to any airborne illness. Alternatively, a student may arrange a remote online lesson if his/her/their vocal cords are not affected.
COVID-19 IMMUNIZATION & CONTACT
We strongly encourage you to get the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as you are eligible. Second doses boost our immunity and provide the greatest protection against COVID-19 and the identified variants. While first doses are a step towards limiting the impacts of COVID-19, the second dose is needed to experience the full benefits of available vaccines.
If you know or suspect you have had contact within the past two weeks with anyone who is ill, especially with COVID-19-type symptoms, who has tested positive for COVID-19, or who is being treated medically for any illness, please cancel your in-person lesson and arrange for a remote lesson instead. Alternatively, the student can arrange to make-up the lesson at a later date once fully recovered.
The instructor will practice responsible social distancing at all times. If the instructor has any suspicion that she has been exposed to COVID-19, she will immediately inform all students who have attended in-person lessons with the instructor. The Instructor will self-quarantine for 7 days by cancelling in-person lessons.
Should a student test positive for COVID-19 (or any other serious infectious disease) please notify The Sharkey Voice Studio immediately so that we may alert any community members who may have been exposed. Conversely, The Sharkey Voice Studio will immediately notify its students if the instructor tests positive for COVID-19 or any other serious infectious disease. To protect the privacy of our students and community members, names of positive persons will not be disclosed.
TEACHER ABSENCES
The instructor reserves the right to miss lessons due to illness, professional commitments, or family commitments. The teacher will either reschedule or makeup such lessons.
PUNCTUALITY
Students must arrive on time for lessons. Due to the fixed teaching schedule, the lesson time will not be extended if the student is late. Lessons will start and end at the confirmed times.
STUDENT SAFETY
Students and parents of underaged students assume full responsibility for the safety for their child to and from lessons as MacEwan University and The Sharkey Voice Studio are not liable for any injury, illness, loss, or damage that may occur.
LESSON TERMINATION
Students may be asked to discontinue lessons if they have an excess amount of absences, tardiness or unprepared lessons. The student will be warned and given one months probation, in which the student must meet the terms of the probation at the discretion of the teacher.
Lessons may also be terminated for unpaid tuition.
THE USE OF TOUCH TO FACILITATE LEARNING IN MUSIC EDUCATION
Touch plays an important role in the music learning process. This is especially so when learning the physiological function and art of singing in our vocal studies. One of the main functions of touch is to develop audiation and vocal physiology. This includes vocal & breath development, posture, and muscle awareness. The instructor will always ask for permission before touching the student.
PROTECTION OF PRIVACY
